KFMB Interactive began as a separate department to manage each of the KFMB station's websites in the late 1990s. As technology has evolved, the department has added additional digital and online coverage and support for each station, including mobile sites and applications, and social media. Additionally, KFMB Interactive has added marketing services to help local San Diego businesses with their overall marketing and digital presence.

In the late 1990s, KFMB Interactive introduced “Show Me San Diego,” which was a city entertainment guide for the county. The program was in place for about two years before KFMB made the decision to focus and grow it's own digital properties.

KFMB Interactive also provides graphic support to the station’s TV and radio sales teams, by creating online advertisements, emails, and client support.

A standout moment for the KFMB Interactive team came during the 2007 wildfires. The team created an online blog and resource page to function as the station’s main news website. The goal was to provide up-to-the-minute coverage of the fires, evacuations and resource information. This proved to be hugely successful in disseminating information to San Diegans, as well as people around the country. This newly created breaking news format was also noticed by CBS Network News who said that this was the first of its kind seen produced by an affiliate.
